Dan S. submitted these photos of a nice project Mustang sitting in a garage waiting to be rescued. He didn't give much info, but it's a 1968 Mustang fastback with a factory V8 and automatic transmission. It's a small block from the engine photo, so either a 289 or 302.

Looks like it had some work done to it like new floor pans before it was tucked away in a dusty garage for the last 14 years. Dan says it also features a fold down rear seat and pop open gas cap. .

Rare Grabber Special Value Package

This 1970 Sportsroof is a Grabber Special Mustang for sale recently on eBay. Ford introduced this option in February of 1970 to help promote the new set of Grabber paint colors. This particular Mustang is one of only 740 Grabber Green cars made, with only 10 currently in the Grabber Registry. Other colors included Grabber Blue, Grabber Orange, Bright Yellow and Calypso Coral.

The Grabbers were all fastbacks (Sportsroofs) and most had either black or white interiors. They also featured black "C" body tape stripes (think Boss 302), color matched dual sport side mirrors, blackout rear tail light panel, 14" standard "dog dish" hub caps and a Windsor 302-2V engine.

The particular Mustang project car also came with C4 Cruise-O-Matic transmission, F70x14 Belted white sidewall tires, power steering and AM radio. The new owner will need to do quite a bit of work on this fastback to bring it back to life. Rust has completely taken out the floor pans, trunk floor, torque boxes and lower quarters. Paint is original, which is nice. Sure it will need to be repainted, but it's a plus that it doesn't have dozens of layers of paint slathered on it over the years.

Barn Find Ford Fairlane drop top

Hardly any info was supplied about this 1969 Fairlane that was for sale recently. It was advertised as the proverbial "barn find" (an absurdly overused catch phrase in today's collector car market) Not exactly a super rare find, but it does appear to have been in storage for a few decades. Lots of dust on this Ford and it's stall mates, which look kind of interesting too.

The Fairlane looks to be in decent shape, under all those layers of time. Most body panels are in good shape and don't seem to be badly rusted or crunched. The top and interior are shot, but those aren't hard restoration projects. The original 351 seems to be in place, although it's missing the carb and front dressings (power steering pump, AC compressor, radiator, etc) It's not going to fire right up, but would look good on a trailer heading to it's new home..

1967 Fastback - Eleanor?!?!?

If I see one more person call their project Mustang an "Eleanor" I'm going to lose my head. C'mon people! "Gone in 60 Seconds" came out almost a dozen years ago. Not every freakin' Mustang fastback is an Eleanor in the making!

OK, that being said, this particular '67 fastback 2+2 wouldn't be a bad restoration project. It's been sitting out in the snow for many winters and needs some serious TLC, but it's a good base to work from. The body is decently straight with some accident damage to the radiator support.  The engine is missing, but it's just a plane jane C code 289, so pretty easy to find a replacement. Or better yet dump a modern 5.0 L in there and create a nice running restomod.

1955 Ford Thunderbird Charbroiled

There's not much chance of bringing this Tbird back from it's fiery grave. The storage shed is sat in for years went up in flames with the rest of the house and that's all she wrote for this old Ford. Too bad. It's getting harder to find a decent classic T-bird for sale and it sounds like this one was in good shape before it got BBQ'ed. Insurance probably cut a nice fat check, but it's not going to get this Thunderbird back on the road.

1955 was the inaugural year for the Thunderbird. It started out as a 2 seater convertible and was likened to the recently introduced sporty 1953 Corvette. But Ford didn't market it that way, instead calling the Thunderbird a "personal car". This started the personal luxury car niche and the Tbird evolved over the years into a larger, more luxurious version of it's former self.

1968 GT/CS for sale

This project Mustang was recently posted for sale on the Massechusetts Craigslist for $2000. A pretty good deal for this rare Mustang, assuming it's not about to collapse into a pile of rust.

This Mustang is a 1968 California Special; also known as a GT/CS (which stands for GT/California Special). These were limited edition Mustangs with only 3,867 made, and only for one year; 1968. Actually Ford has since re-introduced the GT/CS in the modern Mustang, but the 1968 version was the original.

The California Special was an appearance package only. There weren't any performance enhancements included. It was only offered on coupes, but any of the standard Mustang engines, options and paint colors could be had with the GT/CS. The package consisted of a blacked out grille with fog lights (Marchall or Lucas depending on build date), fiberglass side scoops (non functional), fiberglass rear deck lid and quarter panel extensions with "duck tail" spoiler molded in, Shelby style rear tail light panel with wide lights taken from the 1965 Thunderbird. The body also got a tripple mid-line body stripe from front fender to rear scoop as well as chrome script on the rear quarters reading "California Special" in cursive font.

If this GT/CS is still wearing it's original paint it looks like it was Sunlit Gold, which was data code "Y". No telling from the ad which engine or transmission it came with, so it could be anything from the little 200 cid six cylinder to the powerful 428 Cobra Jet engine which was introduced in mid 1968.

This California Special looks to have had a hard life. Hopefully a new buyer will trailer it home and give it the TLC it deserves. A rare Mustang like this really shouldn't be rusting away in some back woods lot.

1969 Mustang 428 CJ

It took an act of God to uncover this rare 428 Cobra Jet powered 1969 Mach 1. It had been sitting in a Florida barn with other classic cars for years when a hurricane came through and literally tore the roof right off. The building was trashed, but luckily this Mustang wasn't damaged. But it did force the owner to finally offer up this Mustang for sale.

This is a true R code Mach 1 with factory 4 speed and shaker hood. Both the engine and transmission have been left alone amazingly. It even still sports the original Candyapple Red paint, which obviously needs to be repainted, but it's a great sign that all the sheet metal is still in place with no major accidents. (the hood being the one exception) The foundation seems very solid. Rust has found it's way into the typical areas on a Mustang, but not too bad considering the high humidity of Florida. Floor pans, torque box, rockers and rear quarter panels need work.

It's quite a collection of parts car Mustangs, but at closer inspection there aren't many diamonds in the rough hiding in this junk yard. (see full list below) The majority of these cars are plane jane coupes without drive trains. The rarest of the bunch are a couple of 1965-1966 fastbacks, a 1970 Mach 1 and a 1968 California Special. But most don't have titles, so would be tough to restore anyway.

1969 Ford Ranchero 390-cid

Here's a nice factory big block Ranchero that someone started to disassemble and then lost interest for whatever reason. It actually looks pretty much unmolested and seems to have fairly straight body panels. Hard to tell for sure of course without a closer inspection, but the owner says it's an Arizona car and so doesn't have much rust. Of course we all know how that goes. "Almost no rust" usually means "almost no rust you can see until you start stripping off paint." But hey, it could be true in this case.

According to the owner it's an original S code big block, which means it has a 390-4bbl from the factory. The 390 is in the same FE engine family as the 428 CJ, although it doesn't produce as much HP for the weight. Behind the 390 is a C6 automatic transmission. Other options include factory air conditioning, power disc brakes and power steering. Pretty nice options list.

Looks like there are quite a few parts laying in the bed and interior. The radiator, grille, and misc chrome trim pieces are still there as is an extra hood sitting in the bed.
