Dan S. submitted these photos of a nice project Mustang sitting in a garage waiting to be rescued. He didn't give much info, but it's a 1968 Mustang fastback with a factory V8 and automatic transmission. It's a small block from the engine photo, so either a 289 or 302.

Looks like it had some work done to it like new floor pans before it was tucked away in a dusty garage for the last 14 years. Dan says it also features a fold down rear seat and pop open gas cap. .

Rare Grabber Special Value Package

This 1970 Sportsroof is a Grabber Special Mustang for sale recently on eBay. Ford introduced this option in February of 1970 to help promote the new set of Grabber paint colors. This particular Mustang is one of only 740 Grabber Green cars made, with only 10 currently in the Grabber Registry. Other colors included Grabber Blue, Grabber Orange, Bright Yellow and Calypso Coral.

The Grabbers were all fastbacks (Sportsroofs) and most had either black or white interiors. They also featured black "C" body tape stripes (think Boss 302), color matched dual sport side mirrors, blackout rear tail light panel, 14" standard "dog dish" hub caps and a Windsor 302-2V engine.

The particular Mustang project car also came with C4 Cruise-O-Matic transmission, F70x14 Belted white sidewall tires, power steering and AM radio. The new owner will need to do quite a bit of work on this fastback to bring it back to life. Rust has completely taken out the floor pans, trunk floor, torque boxes and lower quarters. Paint is original, which is nice. Sure it will need to be repainted, but it's a plus that it doesn't have dozens of layers of paint slathered on it over the years.

1967 Fastback - Eleanor?!?!?

If I see one more person call their project Mustang an "Eleanor" I'm going to lose my head. C'mon people! "Gone in 60 Seconds" came out almost a dozen years ago. Not every freakin' Mustang fastback is an Eleanor in the making!

OK, that being said, this particular '67 fastback 2+2 wouldn't be a bad restoration project. It's been sitting out in the snow for many winters and needs some serious TLC, but it's a good base to work from. The body is decently straight with some accident damage to the radiator support.  The engine is missing, but it's just a plane jane C code 289, so pretty easy to find a replacement. Or better yet dump a modern 5.0 L in there and create a nice running restomod.

1968 GT/CS for sale

This project Mustang was recently posted for sale on the Massechusetts Craigslist for $2000. A pretty good deal for this rare Mustang, assuming it's not about to collapse into a pile of rust.

This Mustang is a 1968 California Special; also known as a GT/CS (which stands for GT/California Special). These were limited edition Mustangs with only 3,867 made, and only for one year; 1968. Actually Ford has since re-introduced the GT/CS in the modern Mustang, but the 1968 version was the original.

The California Special was an appearance package only. There weren't any performance enhancements included. It was only offered on coupes, but any of the standard Mustang engines, options and paint colors could be had with the GT/CS. The package consisted of a blacked out grille with fog lights (Marchall or Lucas depending on build date), fiberglass side scoops (non functional), fiberglass rear deck lid and quarter panel extensions with "duck tail" spoiler molded in, Shelby style rear tail light panel with wide lights taken from the 1965 Thunderbird. The body also got a tripple mid-line body stripe from front fender to rear scoop as well as chrome script on the rear quarters reading "California Special" in cursive font.

If this GT/CS is still wearing it's original paint it looks like it was Sunlit Gold, which was data code "Y". No telling from the ad which engine or transmission it came with, so it could be anything from the little 200 cid six cylinder to the powerful 428 Cobra Jet engine which was introduced in mid 1968.

This California Special looks to have had a hard life. Hopefully a new buyer will trailer it home and give it the TLC it deserves. A rare Mustang like this really shouldn't be rusting away in some back woods lot.

1969 Mustang 428 CJ

It took an act of God to uncover this rare 428 Cobra Jet powered 1969 Mach 1. It had been sitting in a Florida barn with other classic cars for years when a hurricane came through and literally tore the roof right off. The building was trashed, but luckily this Mustang wasn't damaged. But it did force the owner to finally offer up this Mustang for sale.

This is a true R code Mach 1 with factory 4 speed and shaker hood. Both the engine and transmission have been left alone amazingly. It even still sports the original Candyapple Red paint, which obviously needs to be repainted, but it's a great sign that all the sheet metal is still in place with no major accidents. (the hood being the one exception) The foundation seems very solid. Rust has found it's way into the typical areas on a Mustang, but not too bad considering the high humidity of Florida. Floor pans, torque box, rockers and rear quarter panels need work.

Here's your chance to buy a turn key Mustang salvage yard. You just provide the yard... and a way to haul off 48 classic Mustangs... oh, and one Cougar. This eBay auction includes a whopping forty-six 1965-1970 Mustangs, a pair of '72 Mustangs plus a collection of stored FOMOCO parts.

It's quite a collection of parts car Mustangs, but at closer inspection there aren't many diamonds in the rough hiding in this junk yard. (see full list below) The majority of these cars are plane jane coupes without drive trains. The rarest of the bunch are a couple of 1965-1966 fastbacks, a 1970 Mach 1 and a 1968 California Special. But most don't have titles, so would be tough to restore anyway.

1967 Mustang High Country Special Convertible

Well, you don't see one of these every day! Yes, yes... I know that's a bad cliche, but this is one of those rare instances where it's very true.

The High Country Special was one of the earliest factory limited edition Mustangs. Ford went pretty crazy in 1967 & 1968 with California Specials, Color of the Month Mustangs, Gold Nugget Specials, Lone Star Limited, Ski Country Specials and so on. But the High Country Special actually started with very little fan fare back in 1966, when 333 Mustangs were painted one of three special colors, given a fender badge and sent to Denver, Colorado dealers. The HCS edition continued as the same package in 1967 with only 416 made. There were also HCS Mustangs in 1968, although in '68 they were related closer to their sister car, the California Special, rather than the earlier 66 & 67 HCS versions. Read more below the photos.

The thing that not all Mustang enthusiasts know is the earlier 1966 & 1967 High Country Specials could be any body style with any engine. So while many were coupes, there were a handful of fastback and convertible HCS cars as well in those years.

This rare example needs quite a bit of work, but it will definitely be worth it for the right owner. A car this unique will bring a ton of attention at shows once it's brought back to life. There were 416 HCS cars made in 1967. Some sources state that only 37 of those were convertibles, although I've not seen a Marti report or other evidence of that number. This one was a fairly tame car other than the HCS package. It came with the C code 2 bbl 289 engine and common C4 automatic. Special paint color is Aspen Gold, designated by a 6 digit DSO on the data tag. It did have power steering and a power top, which are really nice features for a driver.

Only one slight problem with this 1968 Mustang fastback... It seems to be RUSTED IN HALF! The owner says it spent it's life in Northern Michigan and that "this happens more than you would think." Yikes!

At least it's not some extremely rare model like a 390 GTA or Shelby or something. This Mustang started life as a simple C-code 289-2 bbl car with a C4 automatic. Pretty run of the mill as Mustangs go, but the fastback body style makes it pretty desirable today. Still, I don't expect this particular car is worth salvaging. Yet another parts car gathers more rust.

How would you like to stumble upon this find? Not one, not two, but three classic Mustang fastbacks. Two are 1968's and one is a 1967. Having 3 shells to start with seems like a good deal at first, but as you study these neglected Muscle cars more the appeal starts to wear off. They all need the same things, so the strategy of combining into one nice project doesn't work very well. They all need serious sheet metal work, especially in the rear quarter panels. I'm not sure there's a straight panel between all 3 cars.

Unfortunately we're left to guess at original equipment. No info was given on engines, transmissions or options. But the desirable fastback body style is worth something even as a pure shell. You could make a very cool set of drag racing triplets! Or maybe one restoration, one daily driver and one resto-mod!

1965 Ford Mustang Convertible

How sad is this Mustang? They don't get much more abused and neglected then what you see here. This '65 convertible is so pitiful looking it's almost funny. Almost. Here sits this iconic example of the Pony car era and it's been reduced to sharing this scummy backyard with old appliances, broken down lawn mowers, used tires, cinder blocks... and what looks to be a stuffed animal hanging by a noose.

Hmmmm...interesting.

But, back to the car. This thing is just beat. Every body panel has some serious rust or collision damage. It looks like it was painted with water based house paint. And cheap house paint at that. In addition to the rust it looks like it actually has moss growing on it. You know that thing's been sitting there a long time if it's got fungus growing on it! And of course the convertible top disintegrated years ago, which means the interior is absolutely trashed from sitting out in the snow and rain. Floor boards aren't shown in these pics, but I bet you could still your feet right through them to the ground.
