1970 Plymouth Barracuda 318 cid

This probably was once a pretty nice '70 Barracuda. Unfortunately it's been scavenged for parts and left out to collect snow for years, so there's not much left to work with. It's missing the doors, all glass, interior, front clip, hood, trunk lid and rear axle.

It does still have it's original 318 cid engine and Torque Flight automatic transmission, but it's not exactly a HEMI or 440 six pack car. Those cars would be worth restoring, even in this condition. But the 318 with auto was the most common combination there was in 1970 with over 19,000 produced.

1970 Superbird Barn (on fire) Find

This Plymouth Superbird for sale on ebay right now is smokin' hot... as in literally on fire! OK, sorry for the bad pun, but there is an interesting story behind this crispy muscle car. See the info from the seller below.

This was once a fully restored super rare 1970 Superbird with a 440 6 pack (triple 2 barrel carbs) and a 727 automatic transmission. It was originally clad in Tor Red, although now it's mostly surface rust and charcoal.

From the seller:

Remember about 6 years ago when the economy was good, the stock market was good, and the car market was booming ? Well the muscle car market was moving leaps and bounds, but the economy wasn't moving as fast. So lots of money guys, guys who couldn't tell the difference between a Cuda and a Roadrunner, started putting their money into cars. Eight years ago this was a rotissere restored Superbird that was appraised at $175,000. I have the appraisal to prove it.

When the muscle car market dropped this guy panicked, because he had a huge garage full of high dollar cars, which all of a sudden weren't worth what he had in them. So he went in and dropped shelves, junk, etc on his cars (to increase the damage) then set fire to the place and collected on the insurance. I have that paperwork too. Unfortunately while all the insurance paperwork was being finished, checks written, and a new owner found, the car sat outside in the weather. Hence the rusty appearance. When you first glance at the car it doesn't look good. But its deceiving. The car was in a garage that started on fire, however the car didn't get that hot. Alot of original paint is still on the car, the damage your seeing is almost entirely from stuff he dropped on it. Basically dents/dings, all very fixable.

1970 'Cuda AAR in Lemon Twist

You think maybe this car has some potential? Hmmmm... maybe. Bidders at Barrett-Jackson seem to think so. This similar 1970 'Cuda recently fetched over $100,000!

This "Lemon Twist" yellow 'Cuda is a true AAR with a 340 cid/290 hp Six Pack engine mated to the desirable 4-speed close-ratio transmission. The rear end has 3.55 ratio gears and the Sure Grip limited slip. Other features include remote mirror, power disc brakes, factory rally wheels and black bucket seats to match the blacked out hood and stripes that came with the AAR package.

Sorry folks. This one isn't for sale. It's just waiting it's turn to be rebuilt.... someday.

1970 Plymouth Superbird Roadrunner

Recently pulled out from storage, this would be a great project to jump on. It's an original 440 4bbl car backed up by a console shift automatic. Unfortunately neither the engine or trans in it now are original. Not the easiest (or cheapest) engine to track down, but it's doable.

The previous owner had started the restoration and got as far as stripping the body down to bare metal. So it has a nice coat of surface rust over the whole car, except for those fiberglass parts of course! Those are still the original "Alpine White". But really other than the rear quarters the rust doesn't look too bad if it's not pitted the body yet. This is an east coast car, so the fact that it's still very solid means it didn't spend much time on those salty roads.

The wing looks to be in good shape and most other parts are there. The head lights are missing, which again will require some detective work to track down. The Roadrunner decal is even still there! Beep-Beep!

Another great car that sat neglected in a field for way too long. This is an original 383-4v car with automatic tranny. But at some point someone decided they'd rather have a 4 speed and so butchered it and ripped out the original transmission.

This Roadrunner was ordered without many options; no AC, stock non-power drum brakes, AM radio, vinyl top. It was originally Green Limelight with green interior and green vinyl top. Gotta love those late 60's color schemes!

The paint job looks like it was either in a fire or some kid from the local community college used it as his body shop test bed. What do you think? 4-5 coats of paint are on that car?

Here's a factory original 440 Road Runner; one of the true fire breathing, legendary Muscle cars from Plymouth. This one has been sitting in a field for 25+ years and certainly shows it.

Behind the 440 is a factory 4 speed and 3.55 gears. Body-wise this car needs some work, but not as bad as some. Floor pans, trunk floor and trunk drops, rear quarter panels, wheel wells, etc. all need some seriour work.

The 440 engine was rated at 390 HP and 490 lb-ft of torque.
