1965 Pontiac GTO Coupe

This is THE original muscle car; a 1964 GTO. This was the first year for GM's A body as well as the legendary GTO. This example has a bit of rust, but really appears quite solid. At least it hasn't been sitting in a field for 20 years. It may have been forgotten and neglected, but it doesn't have it's tires in the grave just yet.

It's a factory PHS verified GTO with floor shift. This goat lost it's engine and transmission somewhere along the line, but the rest is still mostly there and intact. With some basic rust repair (quarter panels, floor pans and trunk) this will be a nice restoration project for someone. Now the owner just needs to be convinced that he's never going to restore it and let it go!

Rare 400 RAM-AIR Firebird project car

Just looking at the photos you can feel the brutal desert heat that this Arizona Firebird has been baking in for the last decade or two. Although not rusted away (thanks to it's dry climate) this Firebird will need all new floors and trunk at a minimum. Seems as though the doors, front fenders, rear quarter panels and cab support members are still in decent shape.

The engine is still there luckily, but has several bent push rods due to a slipped timing chain. Supposedly the block and heads weren't damaged, but that would be tough to prove until you got the engine out of the car and hot tanked.

It's a documented RAM-AIR car per the Pontiac Historical Society (PHS). The original color was Autumn Gold (interior and exterior) with the hood blackout option and a center blackout stripe on the rear trunk. A very sharp early Firebird with a ton of potential due to it's rare power train.  Hope it went to a good home!

1966 Pontiac GTO 389

From the front this '66 GTO doesn't look like a bad restoration candidate. But then walk around to the drivers rear and whoooaaa! Where's the rear quarter panel? Start looking a little closer and you'll see this car is just waiting to fall apart. The trunk and floor pans are total swiss cheese. And that surface rust covering every body panel might come off with media blasting, but would probably leave enough pits to require a whole new skin of bondo.

It was a decently optioned Goat with a 389 cid engine, automatic transmission, air conditioning, power brakes and steering. But it's probably not worth saving. If it had a tri-power with a 4 speed, then maybe.

1967 GTO in a barn

Thanks for Charlie for submitting this project of his. Per his email it was bought in 1980 to restore, but sat in a pole barn with dirt floor until 05-10-2011. He hasn't decided what to do with it yet. The engine is not frozen, but frame is shot. As you can see from the first shot it's sagging almost in half.

Good luck on the restoration Charlie or on finding it a good home if you decide to sell it!

1965 Pontiac GTO

This would be an excellent restoration project if the guy could ever be convinced to part with her. But apparently several attempts have been made, but he's not biting. It's supposedly been verified by PHS as a true GTO.

It rolled off the assembly line as a 389 4bbl car with the Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, console equipped floor shifter. Not as rare as the Tri-Power (triple 2 bbl carbs) but certainly no slouch where the gas pedal is concerned. Color was originally Fontaine Blue with a Medium Blue interior, but looks like things have changed over the years.

It also seems to be missing some parts. The hood, door, driver's seat and bumpers wouldn't be too tough to locate. The grill might be another story, although they are out there for a price. And who knows what's packed into the cockpit. Check out the last photo. That thing could have another whole car parted out inside of it!

1969 Pontiac Firebird

Not a whole lot of information to go by on this Firebird. According to the owner it's a factory Orange car with a white interior. But Orange wasn't a factory color, so it looks like Matador Red (paint code 52) or maybe Burgundy (code 67) but it's hard to tell with so many years of the sun beating down on it. The motor is gone, but it still has the factory 3 speed transmission. You just have to pull it out of the trunk!

From the photos it seems the owner has a few more decent classic cars rusting away in his collection. It's really a shame when vintage and muscle cars like this just get abandoned out in a field and the owner won't part with them. They always say they're going to restore them, but year after year there they still sit.

1966 Pontiac GTO Tri-Power

It's hard to beat a factory Tr-Power GTO for wow factor. Plus it's got a 4 speed transmission, 3.55 posi rear and power steering. This one looks like a decent candidate for a full restoration. Sure it has plenty of surface rust, but maybe not much structural cancer.

In 1966 they actually made fewer coupes than convertibles, so that plus the Tri-Power makes this one pretty rare. Of course rare and value don't always mean the same thing. I'd still rather have a drop top!

1965 Pontiac GTO

This would be a sweet little project Goat. It's a 1965 GTO and has obviously been sitting, but really looks worse then it is. The rust is there and would need to be dealt with, but if the price was right it could be worth dealing with the cancer.

Owner says it has a 389 in it with an automatic trans behind. Looks like the interior has been partially torn down (no dash guages) and some stuff doesn't appear correct for this year.

But it runs, so there's a start!
