1967 Pontiac GTO

This car actually seems to be a little too rust free to fit the name of this site, but it's definitely a Musclecar so I'll let it slide.

Check out this '69 AMX rolling chassis. The original 390 cid engine and "Shift Command" 3 speed automatic are long gone. But hey, that's just the excuse you were looking for to make a Pro-street drag car, right? And the blown motor you were going to cram in there would require a wicked hood scoop anyway, so the fact that the hood is MIA isn't a problem either.

The rust looks pretty bad, but certainly not something a decent body man couldn't salvage. Of course it always looks worse in person than in photos. At minimum you'd need to replace the rear quarter panels and whatever other ugly surprises waiting for you after you had it media blasted. I's probably take it back to it's original Pompeii Yellow color. It's a factory disc brake car, and luckily they're still intact along with the front suspension components.

If you're into the more unique muscle cars that AMC put out this AMX would be a good choice. Hey, it's already on a trailer!

1965 Pontiac GTO

This would be an excellent restoration project if the guy could ever be convinced to part with her. But apparently several attempts have been made, but he's not biting. It's supposedly been verified by PHS as a true GTO.

It rolled off the assembly line as a 389 4bbl car with the Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, console equipped floor shifter. Not as rare as the Tri-Power (triple 2 bbl carbs) but certainly no slouch where the gas pedal is concerned. Color was originally Fontaine Blue with a Medium Blue interior, but looks like things have changed over the years.

It also seems to be missing some parts. The hood, door, driver's seat and bumpers wouldn't be too tough to locate. The grill might be another story, although they are out there for a price. And who knows what's packed into the cockpit. Check out the last photo. That thing could have another whole car parted out inside of it!

1970 'Cuda AAR in Lemon Twist

You think maybe this car has some potential? Hmmmm... maybe. Bidders at Barrett-Jackson seem to think so. This similar 1970 'Cuda recently fetched over $100,000!

This "Lemon Twist" yellow 'Cuda is a true AAR with a 340 cid/290 hp Six Pack engine mated to the desirable 4-speed close-ratio transmission. The rear end has 3.55 ratio gears and the Sure Grip limited slip. Other features include remote mirror, power disc brakes, factory rally wheels and black bucket seats to match the blacked out hood and stripes that came with the AAR package.

Sorry folks. This one isn't for sale. It's just waiting it's turn to be rebuilt.... someday.

1967 Mustang High Country Special Convertible

Well, you don't see one of these every day! Yes, yes... I know that's a bad cliche, but this is one of those rare instances where it's very true.

The High Country Special was one of the earliest factory limited edition Mustangs. Ford went pretty crazy in 1967 & 1968 with California Specials, Color of the Month Mustangs, Gold Nugget Specials, Lone Star Limited, Ski Country Specials and so on. But the High Country Special actually started with very little fan fare back in 1966, when 333 Mustangs were painted one of three special colors, given a fender badge and sent to Denver, Colorado dealers. The HCS edition continued in 1967 and then again in 1968, although in '68 they were related closer to their sister car, the California Special, rather than the earlier 66 & 67 HCS versions.

The thing that not all Mustang enthusiasts know is the earlier 1966 & 1967 High Country Specials could be any body style with any engine. So while many were coupes, there were a handful of fastback and convertible HCS cars as well in those years.

This rare example needs quite a bit of work, but it will definitely be worth it for the right owner. A car this unique will bring a ton of attention at shows once it's brought back to life. There were 416 HCS cars made in 1967. Some sources state that only 37 of those were convertibles, although I've not seen a Marti report or other evidence of that number. This one was a fairly tame car other than the HCS package. It came with the C code 2 bbl 289 engine and common C4 automatic. Special paint color is Aspen Gold, designated by a 6 digit DSO on the data tag. It did have power steering and a power top, which are really nice features for a driver.

Not a whole lot of information to go by on this Firebird. According to the owner it's a factory Orange car with a white interior. It looks more like a Carousel Red car to me (paint code 72) but it's hard to tell with so many years of the sun beating down on the field where it was left abandoned. The motor is gone, but it still has the factory 3 speed transmission. You just have to pull it out of the trunk!

Unfortunately this Challenger may be headed to the great Mopar showroom in the sky. It's really only good for a parts car at this point. So much has been chopped off and hacked away that it's barely holding itself together. Leaving it out in the snow to rust certainly isn't helping matters.

It looks like it might still have a decent front clip, roof, rear body panel and maybe a floor. No word on what engine or transmission this Dodge Challenger came with from the factory. All the drive train has long ago been parted out, hopefully to a good Mopar home.

1968 Fastback - Minor Rust

Only one slight problem with this 1968 Mustang fastback... It seems to be RUSTED IN HALF! The owner says it spent it's life in Northern Michigan and that "this happens more than you would think." Yikes!

At least it's not some extremely rare model like a 390 GTA or Shelby or something. This Mustang started life as a simple C-code 289-2 bbl car with a C4 automatic. Pretty run of the mill as Mustangs go, but the fastback body style makes it pretty desireable today. Still, I don't expect this particular car is worth salvaging. Yet another parts car gathers more rust.

1947 Ford Deluxe 2-Door Sedan

This is the kind of project you just love to come across hiding behind some old farm house or barn in the midwest. How much of this '47 Ford's 60 years do you think it's spent sitting in the weeds? Long enough to grow them through the interior.

The sheet metal on these old Sedans is amazing. Nothing today compares, and even the thicker steel of the 60's & 70's Muscle Cars doesn't hold up as well as 40's bodies. Sure it's got rust everywhere, but it's almost all surface rust. The structure is still solid after 60 years and ready to be brought back to life as a cool hot rod or even full restoration.

1970 Plymouth Superbird Roadrunner

Recently pulled out from storage, this would be a great project to jump on. It's an original 440 4bbl car backed up by a console shift automatic. Unfortunately neither the engine or trans in it now are original. Not the easiest (or cheapest) engine to track down, but it's doable.

The previous owner had started the restoration and got as far as stripping the body down to bare metal. So it has a nice coat of surface rust over the whole car, except for those fiberglass parts of course! Those are still the original "Alpine White". But really other than the rear quarters the rust doesn't look too bad if it's not pitted the body yet. This is an east coast car, so the fact that it's still very solid means it didn't spend much time on those salty roads.

The wing looks to be in good shape and most other parts are there. The head lights are missing, which again will require some detective work to track down. The Roadrunner decal is even still there! Beep-Beep!
